Kwiato
Milan-San Remo 2017 was one of the closest finishes of the pro cycling season that year, with the then-World Champion, an ex-World Champion, and the eventual King Of The Mountains of the 2018 Tour De France battling it out to the line. Team Sky’s Michal “Kwiato” Kwiatkowski, won the longest race of the pro tour by mere inches, and so, I wanted to illustrate the event.
A lot of what went into creating this piece was drawing and re-drawing. This was the first full piece I create solely on a digital platform, and I was able to learn a great deal from it.
The biggest part of what I learned was that different shading techniques don’t always go hand in hand. I tried several methods before finally deciding on using hatching, as I felt that it worked best for the piece. Second, I learned to take creative liberty with the piece, foregoing some detail to further accentuate others.
As the sole developer of this piece, I am very happy with the way it turned out. Maybe, in the future, I would go over it again and revise small things here and there, but overall, I love it.
